Subsunk was a budget text adventure realised by Firebird Software in 1985 It had rudimentary graphics, created from symbols and user-defined graphics in the Spectrum's character set. Despite some quite obscure puzzles and the occasional 'guess the verb' challenge, Subsunk was well regarded at the time for conjuring up the claustrophobic atmosphere of a submarine.

45 | --------SUBSUNK ADVENTURE------- -------- ------- BY PETER TORRANCE & COLIN LIDDLE WRITTEN USING"THE QUILL"DATABASE -------------------------------- H.M.Submarine "Sea Lion", sweeps majestically over the surface of the ocean. The crew have been at sea for too long and their only thought is of home. you are "ED LINES", the famous reporter for the "Seafarers Gazette".You have been assigned to study and write on the subject of life aboard a modern submarine. It's been int- eresting and exciting-but you're about to get a bit more excite- ment than you bargained for!! Something's wrong! An alarm bell rings!- Someone shouts out that the sub' is being attacked by an enemy power....... |
46 | Before the sub can submerge, the enemy are aboard and one by one the crew are captured.- You must find somewhere to hide!! You crawl under a bunk and mira- culously you aren't spotted. You have been lying there for hours. You feel a bump. They must have sunk her! What now? - Let me see now. What have I learned about the procedures whilst I've been aboard? I think I've got to get to the TELEX ROOM and send the SUB-SUNK message! Now which way was it............ |
47 | Guide me through the Adventure by typing in your commands. e.g. "N" or "NORTH" to move North. "E" or "EAST" to move East etc. "GO ENTRANCE":"CLIMB LADDER" "GET KNIFE":"EXAMINE LOCKER"etc. OBVIOUS EXITS are shown inside brackets-e.g.(N,S,E,W,U,D). "I" or"INVENTORY" will tell you what you are carrying.Always"EXAMINE" things. A command you will want to use often is:- "L" or "LOOK". Use this command when you have forgotten where you are & what you can see. In fact I know over 150 words! Above all have fun and try to imagine you are really there. BUT THEN YOU ARE!....... |

--------SUBSUNK ADVENTURE------- -------- ------- BY PETER TORRANCE & COLIN LIDDLE WRITTEN USING"THE QUILL"DATABASE -------------------------------- H.M.Submarine "Sea Lion", sweeps majestically over the surface of the ocean.

Before the sub can submerge, the enemy are aboard and one by one the crew are captured.- You must find somewhere to hide!!

Guide me through the Adventure by typing in your commands.
