Hampstead was written by Trevor Leve and Peter Jones and released by Melbourne House in 1984. It is a satirical look at social mobility and social climbing, frequently referencing the British 'yuppie' culture of the 1980s. There are many things referenced that only really make sense if you lived in, or are knowlegable of, 1980s Britain. Stylistically, it has some unusual conventions, one of the most confusing being that you have to use the command 'redescribe' or 'r' to redescribe the current location, rather than 'look'. There are also a number of ways of getting the game into an unwinnable state without the game actually ending.
