24 | The eagle's nest was fairly shabby. Bimbo was in the departure lounge section, a drab, stuffy, expensive area of nothing in particular, most of the way up a tall mountain. |

74 | Bimbo was in the Goblin Dungeon. A small door was set into the north wall, overlooked by a high window in the west wall. The floor was not at all clean. |
75 | Bimbo was in a dark, winding passage leading southeast and southwest through the evil mountain. Water trickled down the walls and sharp rocks jutted inconsiderately out of the floor. In the north wall was a window. |
76 | Bimbo was in the Big Goblin's Cavern. Quite whether it was the big cavern of the goblins or the cavern of the Big Goblin remains a mystery, but ways out led east and northeast. The dungeon door was southeast. |
77 | Bimbo found himself inside the Goblin's Gate. Worn, slimy steps led up through the Goblin's back door, while most other ways delved down into the mountain. |
78 | A dark, stuffy passage! Bimbo stood under the jagged rock ceiling, amid the rubble of an ancient cave-in. Ways on led north, south and east. |
79 | Bimbo was following a dark, stuffy passage. The passage led south and east, while a large manhole in the floor facilitated progress downward. A narrow cleft in the rock led away to the southeast. |
80 | Bimbo stood at a junction in the dark, stuffy passage. Ways led north, east and west through the black, imitation rock. |
81 | Bimbo found himself in a dark, stuffy passage. Through the rubble and goblin refuse, ways were visible north and east. |
82 | Bimbo was at an intersection of dark, stuffy passages. Dark, stuffy passages led south, west, northeast and southwest. |
83 | Bimbo was in a large, dark and stuffy passage, leading north- east and south through the mountain. |
84 | Bimbo found himself at the end of a rather pointless, dead-end, dark and stuffy passage. The said passage led back south- east. |
85 | Bimbo stood at the end of a dark stuffy passage. The passage itself led south, while an open manhole gaped in the floor, beckoning down. |
86 | Bimbo stood on the edge of a dark, still lake. Mist drifted eerily across the surface of the silent waters, and a small island was just visible by the glistening light of the cavern roof. |
87 | Bimbo was trecking along a particularly dark and stuffy passage. Ways led down, south, southeast and southwest into the darkness. |
88 | Bimbo found himself in a dark, stuffy passage. A metal ladder extended up through the floor and ceiling, while the passage wound off northwards. |
89 | Bimbo stood at the foot of an ornately carved metal ladder. Darkness shone down from the hole in the roof. |
90 | Bimbo stood at a major junction, where most respectable dark stuffy passages met. Solid walls stood to the south, southwest and northeast. |
91 | Bimbo was in a cave-like, dark and stuffy passage. Three, lavishly decorated archways were set into the north, northeast and northwest walls. |
92 | Bimbo stood in the gloom of yet another dark, stuffy passage. The way led northwest and west through the darkness. |
93 | Bimbo found himself in a drab passage, dark and a trifle stuffy. The passage bent north and east under the Wiffy Mountains. |
94 | Bimbo found himself in a dark, stuffy passage, deep in the Goblin's Mountain. Ways led north, northwest and west through the gloom. |
95 | Bimbo found himself up a tree, somewhere near the Goblin's Gate. It was a large tree, positively bristling with thick branches and liberally covered in leaves. Some way below, the forest floor was visible. |
96 | Bimbo was in the cargo bay of a huge feathery eagle. Below him, the eccentric contours of Muddle Earth rolled nauseously. |
97 | Bimbo found himself in the Ambassador Class Executive Adventurer Suite of a large TWA eagle. The landscape looked up from below in an inviting sort of way- about as inviting as a night out with a manticora. |
98 | (No entry) |
99 | A long, straight road, running up a steep hill. Halfway up the hill, on the eastern side of the road, a house. |
100 | The rolling expanse of the golf course. Thick gorse bushes lined the quiet avenues of trees. Far to the north, the way to a long road. |
101 | Room 101, home of -------. Strewn with computers, a bed and an old stereo crowd for space amid the piles of rubbish. |
102 | Bimbo was in the barrel. |
103 | In a small, peaceful village, a road. On the road, a house. In the house, a room. In the room? Wouldn't you like to know! |
104 | Shortly, the Grim Reaper, Death arrived to claim Bimbo. The end had come! |

0 | Certain, are we? |
1 | Bimbo waited. Time crawled slowly past. |
2 | Bimbo went out of his way to notice something interesting. However, he found nothing. |
3 | A goblin arrived. |
4 | The goblin went away. |
5 | On the card, in large, type- writer runes, were the words, "I wish thee to accompany some er, 'friends' on an adventure. See you soon. -GG- P.S. These chocs will self- destruct in 10 minutes." |
6 | The goblin spied Bimbo and captured him with only a little violence. |
7 | The goblin opened a crack in the roof. |
8 | The diary was blank, save for some birthdays- Old Goop: 12/3/26 Fordo: 29/2/85 Farmer Faggot: 4/7/31 |
9 | The goblin closed the crack. |
10 | Bimbo killed the goblin with his sword. A rather shabby hearse roared up, collected the corpse, and sped away. |
11 | Bimbo shot the goblin with the bow and arrow. The goblin caught the arrow with his stomach and fell over, quite dead. |
12 | Bimbo carefully picked his way up through the goblins gate. He was almost free when he accidentally sneezed. "Yeuch!" shrieked a nearby goblin, wiping something green off the back of his neck. The alarm was sounded and hordes of goblins chased Bimbo down a forest gully. Stuck for a sensible place to hide, Bimbo climbed a tree. There he clung, listening to the belching and vomitting which heralded the goblin's approach. |
13 | Bimbo tried to climb down but he was stuck. |
14 | An eagle flew by, looking for its lost egg. |
15 | Bimbo tried to close the door but it was jammed open. |
16 | An eagle flew past. It spied Bimbo with its egg, and quickly landed in the tree. "Thanks for finding my egg!" said the eagle. "It looks a bit the worse for wear but it'll soon be back in shape." To show it's gratitude, the eagle agreed to give Bimbo a free ride.... |
17 | Trumpeting with wicked glee, several hundred goblins came crashing through the forest below. One goblin had a trained rock on a leash and, within minutes, the rock was snuffling round the base of Bimbo's tree. "Hooray!" cried the goblins. They emptied their cigarette lighters onto the tree and set it alight. The chief goblin then wandered round, handing out marshmallows which they toasted in the flames. |
18 | Several wargs bounded up and started barking up the wrong tree. Grandalf opened one of his magic pockets and got out a can of Pedigree Chum (which he had been saving for later). He threw it down. The wargs rushed over to it, had a quick sniff, and scattered whimpering off into the forest. |
19 | The flames were beginning to singe Bimbo's furry toes. |
20 | The flames finally engulfed the tree and Bimbo was cremated. |
21 | "I'll take you down to Berkwood in a minute." said the eagle. "Just got to go to the can." He flew off to find a bare- headed victim. |
22 | The eagle returned and Bimbo got on board. |
23 | Soon the eagle landed somewhere in Berkwood. Bimbo got off. |
24 | Bimbo threw the rope. It flew up to the window and coiled round something, but then slipped. He caught it as it fell. |
25 | Bimbo threw the rope. It flew up and became securely caught on the edge of the window. |
26 | Bimbo gave the rope a hefty tug, which it accepted politely. As he pulled, the rope began to drag the window down the wall until it was finally within his reach. Grinning with many teeth and a new refinement of any expression people had previously considered inane, Bimbo stuffed himself through the window before, with an audible "WHAP", it shot back up the wall. |
27 | The door was jammed open, magically it would seem. |
28 | Bimbo walked through the door, which closed and locked itself behind him. |
29 | The door was locked shut. |
30 | Bimbo charged northwards and disappeared through the window with a fading "AAARRGGGHHH!". |
31 | "Nithe boggit, nithe, nithe. Anthwer our riddle, yeth, or we'll thtrangle him, oh yeth!" lithped Goldbum. He pauthed, looked over hith thoulder for effect, then whithpered, "What ith the airthpeed of an unladen Nathgul?" |
32 | "African or European?" asked Bimbo, casually. "Poo!" rathped Goldbum, "You've theen the film!" He wandered away thadly. |
33 | "Right, that'th long enough!" thnapped Goldbum. He wandered away to lay in wait. |
34 | It would take about 4k to put a proper ALL command into a Quill adventure! |
35 | Goldbum thuddenly leapt on Bimbo and grabbed him by the neck. A nasty skirmish followed, the outcome being a rather fatally strangled Bimbo.... |
36 | "What hath it got in itth troutherth?" mumbled Goldbum. |
37 | "Hi." said Fergus gloomily. "Sorry about the lack of examine messages but we're really tight on memory in parts 1 & 3." |
38 | Bimbo greeted Grandalf. "Hello, my good boggit!" smiled the old wizard. |
39 | A big HI to all you semi- intelligent life forms out there in adventureland from all here at Room 101! |
40 | Bimbo greeted Thorny. "Yo!" returned the dwarf. |
41 | Bimbo greeted the dwarves. "Well, Hi there!" chorused the dwarves tunefully. |
42 | Long have men sought the answer. 42 was just not good enough, how do you explain a ruined life by quoting the product of six times seven? |
43 | Bimbo dug the sand, carelessly scattering it to the air. A small, upper-half-of-the- dungeon cleaning robot appeared out of a little panel on the east wall. It scooped up the sand in a vaguely facial orifice, and made a quick exit through yet another panel, this time in the west wall. |
44 | Bimbo examined the torch. A battery slid out of it and, in his rush to catch this, he dropped the torch. It clattered to the floor, the noise allerting a small, lower- half-of-the-dungeon cleaning robot which rushed out from a narrow crack in the wall, picked up the torch, and fled back into the crack. "BLUG!" exclaimed Bimbo in dismay. |
45 | Bimbo inserted the battery into the sword, where it locked in place. The sword began to glow. |
46 | Bimbo ate the sandwich, gagged, decided that the marmalade was poisonous, and expired... |
47 | Bimbo drank the wine. It really wash very good shtuff but he had to shit down. Thish, he deshided, was a bad move, sho he shtood up again. |
48 | Bimbo strung an arrow to his bow, let fly, and missed by a mere mile. |
49 | Bimbo smashed the trapdoor. Termites devoured the broken pieces and made off up the wall and out the window. |
50 | Bimbo examined the trapdoor. It was wooden, locked, and on the whole, blue. |
51 | You know it makes sense! |
52 | "Hello, I'm just such a hero!" intoned Colin, modestly. |
53 | Judith turned and cried, |
54 | "HA!" |
55 | "Lux" said Bimbo. As if by magic.... |
56 | ...a floodlight appeared. It paused briefly and then roared away. |
57 | Hello to- Chris "GREMBO" Bourne, Bill "IncorAmtixable" Scolding, John "Not disgusting at all" Gilbert, WPC Fanthorpe, Clare "Ligger whatever that means" Edgely, Graham "Oh God" Taylor, David "Fancy seeing you here" Kelly, everyone at Ludlow who we don't know, Christina "Lovely" Erskine, Tony "Grand Elf" Bridge, Henry "Scroll Keeper" Mueller, all our chums at Level 9, CRL and MacMillan and, Terry "Carniverous Plants" Pratchett. |
58 | IS IT JUST A COINCIDENCE THAT THE QUILL RECOGNIZES FOUR LETTER WORDS, EH? |
59 | I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT US HERE AT ------ARE A BIT FED UP OF SEXISM IN ADVENTURES. SO, TO AVOID ANY MALE OVERTONES, WE THINK IT BEST THAT YOU DERIVE YOUR SEXUAL FULFILLMENT FROM REAL PEOPLE OF THE APPROPRIATE GENDER, RATHER THAN MUDDLE ABOUT IN AN ADVENTURE GAME! ANYWAY, WE GET HASSLED IF OUR PROGRAMS ARE TOO CRUDE! |
60 | How can anyone examine a WHOLE lake?!! |
61 | The ladder was very boring. |
62 | The ladder was very plain. |
63 | The arch had, "Stick up for your dad- he stuck up for you." scrawled on it in vandalistic runes. |
64 | The tree was tall and very burnable. |
65 | The branch was made of wood. |
66 | The leaves were small and green. |
67 | The computers included 48K Spectrums, Commode 64's, an 8256, a 6128, a 128K Spectrum, and a MTX 500 (among other things). |
68 | Interesting fact: Almost everyone at ------ has slept on/in this bed. And that's not how it sounds! |
69 | Twin decks, radio, phono, NAFF! |
70 | What are you? Some sort of scavenger or something? The rubbish was just crisp packets, old listings, coke cans that squelch, empty Camel packets, Vodka bottles, etc. Nothing important to the game! |

79 | The key had "Studio 7d" written on it in bankrupt runes. |
80 | The key was small, curious, and useless. |
81 | The luncheon was sort of flat and round brown things. What- ever they were they didn't look very appetizing. |
82 | The clothes line was just a length of rope. |
83 | The sandwich had a vague aroma of almonds. |
84 | Now! Load in the data you saved at the end of the last part! |
85 | Durincell, what else?! |
86 | The treasure was about 5 tonnes of gold and jewels. |
87 | The security card had, "ACCESS TO RESTRICTED AREAS" written on it. |
88 | The Barkenstone was beautiful, crafted from plastic in the great workshops of the east. |
89 | The sword was plain, save for, "HE-MAN" written on the blade. |
90 | The ring was a flat, gold disk with a large hole in the middle. |
91 | Camel (middle tar) of course. |
92 | TrussCard- supports your buying whims. |
93 | The egg was fried, sunny side up. |
94 | The pink key was decorated with yellow flowers. |

96 | Bimbo's dwarf chums appeared. |
97 | Thorny appeared. |
98 | Grandalf appeared. |
99 | "Hello!" smiled Smelrond. |
100 | "Rowwwrrrrr!" greeted Beorn. |
101 | "Fethtive greetingth!" thaid Goldbum. |
102 | "Hello, tea-leaf!" smouldered the dragon. |
103 | "Woof!" observed the warg. |
104 | "Okay!" came the reply. |
105 | "No way!" came the reply. |
106 | Now it's time to load part 3. |
107 | This will mean saving data and going into the next part of the adventure. Are you sure you want to do that? |
108 | You must now save gave data to cassette so that you can reload your position in the next part of the game and continue the adventure. Put a blank cassette in your cassette recorder as if you were about to save a normal program. When you load up the next part, type the command "LOAD" and load this saved position. Simple, eh? |
109 | There was suddenly a tremendous roar. It was Bimbo's stomach, as the little boggit was getting weak from hunger. |
110 | Bimbo stopped, his head realing. His legs slowly folded under him and the ground rushed up to bash him on the nose. His hunger had finally caught up with him. He was dead. |
111 | Bimbo ate his luncheon. |
112 | Bimbo called for assistance. A gnome with an Australian accent and "MH" written on its head flew by on a huge magic carpet. "You're doing fine!" it cried helpfully and went away. |
113 | A small aparition appeared. "Hello." it said. Bimbo waited. The apparition blew its nose into a little orange hanky and continued, "It may interest you to know that the goblin's mountain bears a close resemblance to another goblin's mountain frequently visited by some ridiculous creatures called 'hobbits' or something." It peered briefly into the hanky, wished it hadn't, and vanished. |
114 | But Bimbo had no weapon! |
115 | Bimbo did glorious and noble battle, emerging triumphant! |
116 | But no foes abounded here! |
117 | Now it's time to load part 1. |

Bimbo was in the Goblin Dungeon. A small door was set into the north wall, overlooked by a high window in the west wall. The floor was not at all clean.
Dungeon
Object #63: some sand
Bimbo was in a dark, winding passage leading southeast and southwest through the evil mountain. Water trickled down the walls and sharp rocks jutted inconsiderately out of the floor. In the north wall was a window.
Passage
None
Bimbo was in the Big Goblin's Cavern. Quite whether it was the big cavern of the goblins or the cavern of the Big Goblin remains a mystery, but ways out led east and northeast. The dungeon door was southeast.
Goblin's Cavern
None
Bimbo found himself inside the Goblin's Gate. Worn, slimy steps led up through the Goblin's back door, while most other ways delved down into the mountain.
