0 | THE BOGGIT Copyright 1986 CRL Group PLC Written by ------ Authors: -udith Child - -ergus McNeill - |
1 | Bimbo stood in his comfortable tunnel like hall. To the east was the round green door and a small window was set high into the wall. To the south, was the round green toilet. |
2 | Bimbo was in the large, wooden chest. |
3 | Bimbo stood outside his boggit- hole at Fag End. He was on the edge of a gloomy, empty land with dreary hills ahead. To the west was the round green door and several tracks led away north, northeast and east. |
4 | Bimbo was in the round green toilet. Furnished with a basin, the obligatory bowl and a rather decrepit medicine cabinet, the room was floored with cream tiles. |
5 | Bimbo surveyed his surroundings. The gloomy lands extended some way to the north where the dark trees of the Troleslaws clung to the odorous feet of the Wiffy Mountains. In the distant west, Fag End was just visible. |
6 | Deep in a gloomy forest, Bimbo now stood in a Troll's clearing. Logs lay on the leafy floor, set round a huge, black, cauldron. Paths led north, south and east through the trees. |
7 | Bimbo was by a conspicuous troll path, winding through the dank trees. Bright red footprints led south from a huge rock door to the north. |
8 | Bimbo looked around. He was in a dark, troll's apartment. The tasteful "blood on rock" decor leapt subtly from the walls, on which hung various portraits of trolls. |
9 | From west to east, the dark trees of the Troleslaws thinned out onto the edge of Wilberland. A short way to the east, across the loud waters of the Brunette River, the pre-fabricated dwellings of Rivendull were clearly distinguishable. |
10 | Bimbo found himself in the great lavatory of Smelrond. Huge oak beams arched high over- head and tall, stained glass windows depicted distasteful tales of old. |
11 | Bimbo was in Smelrond's house at Rivendull. The fair music of elvish singing drifted sweetly through the air, interrupted now and again by the odd Australian orc banging out heavy metal. The emerald leaves of tall oak trees brushed gently on the window and woodsmoke carried dubious aromas in from the cook fires outside. |
12 | Bimbo stood in the secret valley of Rivendull. Between the tall, straight trees, the occaisional pink spotted yellow hovel leapt casually from the landscape. Emminently noticable due to its close proximity was a great hall and, just beside it, a small and unobtrusive mail box. The hall was to the north while peppermint paths led east and west out of the valley. |
13 | Bimbo was at the western entrance to the Wiffy Mountains. A large, neon archway marked the start of the main path which wound its way east up into the craggy peaks. Other tracks led south and north into the rocks. A small booth had been set up nearby to sell post cards and small imitation mountains to unsuspecting adventurers. |
14 | Bimbo was on one of the many mountain paths which lurked in the Wiffy Mountains. Gaps between the rocks allowed movement in most any direction. |
15 | Precariously poised, 5 minutes dreadful drop above the misty valley floor, on a crumbling ledge 7cm wide, was Bimbo. Defying normal logic, the ledge led south, east and west around the mountainside. |
16 | Water dripped from the roof of the dark cave, splashed wetly on Bimbo's nose and fell to the large puddle which was soaking into his feet. A little daylight filtered in from the south, but it was very dark. |
17 | Bimbo found himself on a path leading east and west through the mountains. To the north, just below a small plastic sign marked "Cave" was what appeared to be a cave. |
18 | Bimbo stood on the eastern edge of the Wiffy Mountains. A long, straight road led east, down to Beorn's house, just past the Carrock and river. Other paths led north, south and east. |
19 | Bimbo stood on a rather drab mountain path. The path wound away in all directions between great towering pinacles of rock and here and there little streams plunged through small cracks and fell to the valley below. |
20 | Bimbo was on a mountain path, winding round the side of a particularly Wiffy Mountain. The slope was not too steep here, allowing progress in any direction. |
21 | Bimbo stood on a steep path dipping east and south, down into the dark valley. Another path wound its way west, up into the mountains. |
22 | Bimbo was in a valley. It was not a particularly striking valley but, set in the midst of the Wiffy Mountains, had some attractive scenery. The valley cut east, while a rocky path led up between huge fallen pebbles. |
23 | Bimbo stood at the eastern end the valley. A path led up in a vaguely eastward direction, while the majority of the valley extended to the west. |

26 | Bimbo was in the mountains, huge pyramid shaped chunks of rock, their bases moulded onto the ground. Paths led away southeast and southwest. |
27 | Bimbo found himself outside the Goblin's back door. It was red, as indeed many back doors were, especially those owned by Wiffy Mountain goblin's. A rough track led east while the goblin's realm was below. |
28 | Bimbo found himself in the mystic treeless opening. Why did no trees grow here? Who could tell? Paths led east and west! |
29 | Bimbo stood in the general vicinity of the Great River Anadin. Great torrents of soluble pain relief roared quietly by, while paths led away south, southwest, west and northeast. |
30 | Bimbo was at Forest River, the aptly named torrent which ran through northern Berkwood. A small path made its way precipitously northwest. |
31 | Beorn's house. Visible exits northeast, south, southwest, west and into the cupboard. |
32 | Bimbo stood at the adventurer's entrance to Berkwood, Forest Gate. The tall, dark and handsome trees stood ominously to the east, while paths led north, south and west across the grassy plains. |

46 | Bimbo stood on the western extremity of the dreaded "Forest Path"! Overhung by many sinister trees, it looked a distinctly ominous route. Other paths led away north and west through long grass. |

50 | Our little boggit hero stood bravely in Beorn's cupboard. Beautifully crafted log walls and a polished floor facilitated a much longer description than the main part of the house outside. |

53 | Bimbo was in the southwest corner of Beorn's house. This corner was not a whole lot more interesting than the rest of the house which, for some inexlicable reason, lay to the west, save for the fact that there was a toilet to the east. |
54 | Bimbo was in Beorn's great, wooden loo. All the normal furnishings were present, carved out of huge logs. |

0 | Certain, are we? |
1 | Bimbo waited. Time crawled slowly past. |
2 | Bimbo went out of his way to notice something interesting. However, he found nothing. |
3 | Suddenly, there was a resounding crash, and Grandalf tarzaned in through the window, collapsing elegantly on the floor beside Bimbo. He hastily fumbled about in his robes for something, then placed a box of chocolates and a card carefully on the carpet before scrambling out through the now broken window. |
4 | The chocolates were small and brown. They probably contained milk chocolate, milk solids (20% minimum) and vegetable fat. |
5 | On the card, in large, type- writer runes, were the words, "I wish thee to accompany some er, 'friends' on an adventure. See you soon. -GG- P.S. These chocs will self- destruct in 10 minutes." |
6 | The chest was both heavy and closed. |
7 | The chest was both heavy and open. |
8 | The diary was blank, save for some birthdays- Old Goop: 12/3/26 Fordo: 29/2/85 Farmer Faggot: 4/7/31 |
9 | Gibbering with fear, Bimbo hurled the chocolates through the broken window. He heard them land in the garden outside and breathed a sigh of relief. |
10 | A muffled report sounded as the chocolates exploded nearby. |
11 | The chocolates exploded, with a loud "BABOOM", blowing Bimbo and his surroundings to pieces. |
12 | Examining the door, Bimbo saw that it had a combination lock. A small plate below it bore the words, "Enter the correct combination." |
13 | Bimbo tugged at the door but it was locked shut. |
14 | Bimbo entered the combination. The door grew wings and flew open. |
15 | Bimbo tried to close the door but it was jammed open. |
16 | Bimbo opened the chest but couldn't quite see inside. |
17 | Bimbo closed the chest, neatly avoiding trapping his thumb, and crunching all his fingers instead. |
18 | Carefully inscribed on the inside of the chest in large, Melbourne House runes, Bimbo read the words, "Place ye treasures here." |
19 | Bimbo ate the chocolates. They really were very good though had a somewhat unusual flavour. A few moments later, he exploded for no apparent reason. |
20 | Bimbo examined the noticeboard. On it were fixed several black and white photographs. "Odd!" thought Bimbo, "Any sensible Tolkien adventure wouldn't have them!?" |
21 | "SURPRISE!" roared a small and rather odorous group of Dwarves as they leapt on Bimbo and set to beating him about the head with sticks. "Ho, Ho!" chuckled Grandalf who appeared, smiling fondly. Bimbo passed out.... |
22 | He woke to the sound of Grandalf announcing something. "....lucky contestant, Bimbo Faggins, COME ON DOWN!" Aided and abetted by the dwarfs, Bimbo came on down. Grandalf smiled a gold-filling grin and continued. |
23 | "Bimbo Faggins, we have here a 14th share of Thorny's dwarvish treasure. How much do you think it's worth?" |
24 | Bimbo awoke in the toilet with a hangover that contravined local strategic arms limitations. |
25 | "Yes! That's right! 'Nothing' is the correct answer!" shrieked Grandalf hysterically. "As well as a 14th of the loot, you have won a relaxing camping holiday. You'll travel the length and girth of Wilberland, see the scenic sights, dragons, whatnot and all the mallarky." After this outburst, the old wizard felt rather in need of a quiet lie down. Everyone went inside. |
26 | We're dwarfs, we're dwarfs, all doomed to die We'll probably finish in the dragon's pie So we'll take ol' Bimbo Faggins, a real cement head Hopefully ol' Daug will eat him instead |
27 | Sing: Hog the gold! Pass the buck! Split Bimbo's share between us! |
28 | Across the Wiffy Mountains, all through dark Berkwood We'll drag ol' lardball with us, he'll do as dragon food And afterwards we'll celebrate, in Thorny's treasure hold With ale and nosh and diamond rings and imitation gold |
29 | Grandalf was relating tales of the perverse habits of Goblins whilst Thorny was rifling the ancient wizard's pockets. Suddenly the dwarf started. "What's this?!" he exclaimed, holding up a key and a curious map. "Why, it looks like a key and a curious map." observed a ridiculously unintelligent dwarf. "Er, yes." explained Grandalf shakily, "These belonged to your father. I found him in the mental hospital of the necromancer. He thought I was his son and gave me them for safe-keeping." |
30 | "But what were you doing in the necromancer's evil tower?" said the dwarfs, mysteriously. "Aah! Quite so. 'Tis indeed a long story, too long to relate now. Alas, Drain was beyond my help, otherwise I would surely have tried to rescue him! He could say nothing save that he must burn Sir Clive Sinclair because he's the devil!" |
31 | "None the less, thou hast used thine jiggery pokery to con my dad's map and key. I am thus required to hospitalize you." intoned Thorny majestically. There followed a very ugly scuffle, resulting in both the dwarf and the wizard falling unconscious to the floor. |
32 | The remaining dwarves decided to try and look vaguely intelligent by reading the map. They spread it out on the floor and pondered it. Soon a fight broke out over which way up the map should be. Within minutes Bimbo was the only one conscious. This situation was soon rectified as he passed out from drinking too much dwarvish ale.... |
33 | Being a merry sort of bunch, the dwarfs began to sing, |
34 | It would take about 4k to put a proper ALL command into a Quill adventure! |
35 | But the chest was already open! |
36 | But the chest WAS closed! |
37 | Bimbo examined the chocolates. "The cleaning elf is gonna kill that old wizard one day!" he remarked to no one in particular. |
38 | Bimbo greeted Grandalf. "Hello, my good boggit!" smiled the old wizard. |
39 | "HELLO!" |
40 | Bimbo greeted Thorny. "Yo!" returned the dwarf. |
41 | Bimbo greeted the dwarves. "Well, Hi there!" chorused the dwarves tunefully. |
42 | "FORTY TWO!" |
43 | "Now, now!" honked a large-nosed dwarf appearing from somewhere. "No running away!" He led Bimbo back with him. |
44 | Bimbo unlocked the door with the key. |
45 | Bimbo locked the door with the key. |
46 | Bimbo opened the door. |
47 | Bimbo closed the door. |
48 | But! The door was locked! |
49 | But the door was closed! |
50 | But the door was open! |
51 | The 3 trolls were called Andre (the little one), Bernard and Matthew. Andre went to sleep as the other 2 trolls ambled over to greet Bimbo. "Hello," said Bernard, "What has we here?" "What HAVE we here!" corrected Matthew gramatically. "Why, it's a boggit! With my new crispy crumb batter and at only $1.35 a pound, it's really bootiful!" grinned Bernard repellantly. "The last poor creature you battered had no meat left once you finished with him!" admonished Matthew. |
52 | "Who cares?" rasped Bernard, "Just how we gonna cook 'im?" "Despite the crudity of this, I'm tempted to try him raw." suggested Matthew. They turned to Andre, who snored approvingly, and then started towards Bimbo. |
53 | Bernard grabbed hold of Bimbo and had an experimental nibble, obliterating the little boggit's right arm. Then, he hastily ate the rest of him. "You cad!" said Matthew and ate Andre's leg out of spite. |
54 | A theologist appeared, and, opening his mouth, he spake thus- "Verily, the word of light measurment and soap flakes is relevant, not only to traffic lights, but unto thine quest also. Think on this as thou venturest into the Troleslaws!" With a rather overdone bow, he flourished away. |
55 | "Lux" said Bimbo. As if by magic.... |
56 | ...a floodlight appeared. It paused briefly and then roared away. |
57 | Bernard looked up. "Oh @#$%!" he observed before he and the other trolls messily turned to putty. |
58 | Bimbo played with the putty, moulding a huge proboscis onto Bernard, rolling Matthew into a sausage, and stretching Andre until he was very nearly three feet tall! "Enough of this trumpery moonshine!" roared the ill- tempered narrator. |
59 | "Hello!" called the narrator, "The trolls are putty now, remember! Good grief, some people are so stupid..." |
60 | Bimbo tried to make use of the toilet. Suddenly, a huge, bottle- shaped monster reared up out of the bowl and bit him horribly! "See you soon." it gurgled unpleasantly, and sank out of sight... |
61 | Bimbo couldn't reach the window. |
62 | The basin contained some ancient mouthwash stains but little else. |
63 | The toilet looked a bit dubious. |
64 | The cabinet was a hefty, steel structure, securely welded shut. |
65 | The tiles were a bit wet but otherwise uninteresting. |
66 | There were 3 logs which Bimbo examined. Bernard's log was big, Matthew's was medium-sized, and Andre's was about to be reposessed. |
67 | The door was thick, made of a concrete coloured rock. It had a large keyhole, too high to look through, yet just within Bimbo's reach. |
68 | Bimbo examined the footprints. They were obviously made by 3 trolls going south. |
69 | The cauldron was black, large, and inscribed with the words, "Please return to PUDDLE LANE!" |
70 | PLEASANT! |
71 | There were 3 portraits- One of Bernard (rather fetching in a bright green suit), one of Matthew (tastefully reclining on a pile of bones) and one with just the top of a bald head showing. |
72 | The windows showed an ancient tale of how the great spiders of Berkwood were vanquished with a multitude of poisonous sandwiches. As far as Bimbo could make out, all the sandwiches (and spiders) were gone.... "But are they?" he asked himself in purple for dramatic effect. |
73 | The mail box was jammed full with junk mail, extolling the virtues of Infocom adventures, and had the inscription, "*Smelrond*, 1 The Valley, Rivendull, W. Muddle Earth." |
74 | Bimbo examined the arch. It flashed brightly but said nothing. |
75 | Bimbo looked over the booth. Tourism had obviously been pretty bad of late, as a small roller-shutter covered the sales window. The door was securely boarded up and an old elvish sticker read, "Closed!" |
76 | Upon close examination, Bimbo saw that the sign actually read, "DANGER! GOBLIN'S MOUNTAIN! KEEP OUT! JUST GO AWAY!" |
77 | The door had, "Speak, fool, and enter!" written on it in Goblin. |
78 | The trolls looked a bit sad. |
79 | The key had "Studio 7d" written on it in bankrupt runes. |
80 | The key was small, curious, and useless. |
81 | The luncheon was sort of flat and round brown things. What- ever they were they didn't look very appetizing. |
82 | The clothes line was just a length of rope. |
83 | The sandwich had a vague aroma of almonds. |
84 | (No entry) |
85 | (No entry) |
86 | The treasure was about 5 tonnes of gold and jewels. |
87 | The security card had, "ACCESS TO RESTRICTED AREAS" written on it. |
88 | The Barkenstone was beautiful, crafted from plastic in the great workshops of the east. |
89 | The sword was plain, save for, "HE-MAN" written on the blade. |
90 | The ring was a flat, gold disk with a large hole in the middle. |
91 | Camel (middle tar) of course. |
92 | TrussCard- supports your buying whims. |
93 | The egg was fried, sunny side up. |
94 | The pink key was decorated with yellow flowers. |
95 | As Bimbo entered, Smelrond look- ed up from his elf chum. "I think you'd better go!" he murmured. "You okay for tomorrow night?" the elf asked. "I'll call you." smiled Smelrond knowingly. The two exchanged a wink and the tall elf minced away. "Er...Hello Fordo, sorry, Bimbo! I'm 50 years ahead of myself." greeted Smelrond awkwardly. |
96 | Bimbo's dwarf chums appeared. |
97 | Thorny appeared. |
98 | Grandalf appeared. |
99 | "Greetings from all here at the last wholesome house!" smiled Smelrond. |
100 | "Rowwwrrrrr!" greeted Beorn. |
101 | (No entry) |
102 | Well Done! Hooray! Woop, Woop! You have completed "The Boggit", you hear? You! See you in Sceptical II! |
103 | "Woof!" observed the warg. |
104 | "Okay!" came the reply. |
105 | "No way!" came the reply. |
106 | A small, negligable crack opened in the wall, negligable that is, until twelve goblins of assorted shape, size and smell, ambled in and moved Bimbo to the dungeon. |
107 | This will mean saving data and going into the next part of the adventure. Are you sure you want to do that? |
108 | Set up your cassette recorder with a new, blank cassette, as if you were going to save an ordinary program. Press a key to save, then load the next section of the game and reload your saved data. Nothing to it, really. |
109 | There was suddenly a tremendous roar. It was Bimbo's stomach, as the little boggit was getting weak from hunger. |
110 | Bimbo stopped, his head realing. His legs slowly folded under him and the ground rushed up to bash him on the nose. His hunger had finally caught up with him. He was dead. |
111 | Bimbo ate his luncheon. |
112 | "Hi Smelly." smiled Grandalf. "Up yours, dragon breath." retorted Smelrond lovingly. "Have a look at this." said the wizard, giving him the map. Smelrond examined the map, then whispered something in the old trickster's ear. Grandalf slapped him, then took back the map and ate it. Smelrond gave Bimbo some instant luncheon and bid them farewell. "At least he explained the map." muttered Grandalf darkly. |
113 | Try TALKing TO people and SAYing FOLLOW ME or maybe STAY HERE... |
114 | But Bimbo had no weapon! |
115 | Bimbo did glorious and noble battle, emerging triumphant! |
116 | But no foes abounded here! |
117 | Now Load Part 2. |
118 | Now Load Part 3. |
119 | THE EMPTY PLACE IS TOO BUG- RIDDEN TO ENTER! |
120 | The warg took it upon itself to run around a bit and howl. Nobody, of course, paid a blind bit of attention. |
121 | Thorny collapsed into song. "Gold it is a yellow metal More nicer than copper or brass A dragon's pinched mine But I'll settle With kicking him hard up the.." he sang, before being censcored painfully by the narrator. |
122 | The warg, growing impatient, finally attacked Bimbo with a large meat cleaver it had found somewhere. Taken by surprise, the little boggit was soon in slices.... |
123 | "Fool!" said Bimbo, introducing himself rather aptly. Suddenly, he was falling down into darkness. He felt his head descending a small flight of stairs, felt his body catch up with it, then, when he seemed to have stopped moving, opened his eyes... |
124 | "HA!" said the monster. Treating Bimbo like so many percent of all known germs, the monster wiped the little boggit out... |
125 | If you wish to restore saved game data, type LOAD as a command. Then play the cassette you saved the position on. |
126 | Bimbo munched happily on the sandwich. Suddenly, due to it being poisoned, he fell choking and gagging to the floor... |
127 | Try again in part 2! |
128 | Bimbo drank the wine. He shuddenly came over all funny and shat down. Shoon, he felt better and short of fell into a shtanding up position. |
129 | Bimbo shot the arrow but missed by miles. |
130 | Bimbo ate the egg. |
131 | Far too easy! |
132 | What do you think this is? Some crude adventure where people go round swearing their heads off? |
133 | You, a mere adventurer wandering round this game tell me, a hyper intelligent being who has spent many sleepless nights getting this finished, to fuck off? YOU FUCK OFF! |
134 | If you want to do that sort of thing, then go and find a toilet and don't waste your time trying to crap around here. |
135 | Tie a knot in it! |
136 | Shan't! |
137 | YOU'LL GO BLIND IF YOU DO THAT! |

Bimbo stood in his comfortable tunnel like hall. To the east was the round green door and a small window was set high into the wall. To the south, was the round green toilet.

Bimbo was in the large, wooden chest.

Object #5: an old, dusty diary
Bimbo stood outside his boggit- hole at Fag End. He was on the edge of a gloomy, empty land with dreary hills ahead. To the west was the round green door and several tracks led away north, northeast and east.

Bimbo was in the round green toilet. Furnished with a basin, the obligatory bowl and a rather decrepit medicine cabinet, the room was floored with cream tiles.

Bimbo surveyed his surroundings. The gloomy lands extended some way to the north where the dark trees of the Troleslaws clung to the odorous feet of the Wiffy Mountains. In the distant west, Fag End was just visible.

Deep in a gloomy forest, Bimbo now stood in a Troll's clearing. Logs lay on the leafy floor, set round a huge, black, cauldron. Paths led north, south and east through the trees.
Trolls Clearing

Object #10: 3 trolls; 2 large, 1 small
Bimbo was by a conspicuous troll path, winding through the dank trees. Bright red footprints led south from a huge rock door to the north.

Object #89: the rock door was locked
Bimbo looked around. He was in a dark, troll's apartment. The tasteful "blood on rock" decor leapt subtly from the walls, on which hung various portraits of trolls.
Troll Apartment
From west to east, the dark trees of the Troleslaws thinned out onto the edge of Wilberland. A short way to the east, across the loud waters of the Brunette River, the pre-fabricated dwellings of Rivendull were clearly distinguishable.

Bimbo found himself in the great lavatory of Smelrond. Huge oak beams arched high over- head and tall, stained glass windows depicted distasteful tales of old.
Smelrond's Loo
None
Bimbo was in Smelrond's house at Rivendull. The fair music of elvish singing drifted sweetly through the air, interrupted now and again by the odd Australian orc banging out heavy metal. The emerald leaves of tall oak trees brushed gently on the window and woodsmoke carried dubious aromas in from the cook fires outside.

Bimbo stood in the secret valley of Rivendull.

Bimbo was at the western entrance to the Wiffy Mountains. A large, neon archway marked the start of the main path which wound its way east up into the craggy peaks. Other tracks led south and north into the rocks. A small booth had been set up nearby to sell post cards and small imitation mountains to unsuspecting adventurers.

Precariously poised, 5 minutes dreadful drop above the misty valley floor, on a crumbling ledge 7cm wide, was Bimbo. Defying normal logic, the ledge led south, east and west around the mountainside.

Water dripped from the roof of the dark cave, splashed wetly on Bimbo's nose and fell to the large puddle which was soaking into his feet. A little daylight filtered in from the south, but it was very dark.

Bimbo found himself on a path leading east and west through the mountains. To the north, just below a small plastic sign marked "Cave" was what appeared to be a cave.
